Dice Ideas, run by Ben Hoblyn and Ross Montgomery create custom artwork using dice as a medium. The duo have been best friends for 25 years having met at primary school, and throughout their childhood both have been encouraged to be creative and follow their passions by their supportive families.

Between them they have accumulated a wide range of experiences in their working careers. Ross began working as a secondary school teacher prior to becoming a design engineer in industry. He has also become an accomplished athlete in the sport of Canoe Polo, winning multiple medals representing Great Britain at international level.

After graduating from Sheffield, Ben began working as a freelance musician. He has enjoyed teaching and playing in various bands in the UK before working as a musician on cruise ships for many years.

Ben comments: “Our idea for this business began during lockdown in 2020. We met for a ‘socially-distanced kick about’ in a local park and discussed ways in which we could combine our skills and experiences to work together on a new project. Our initial aim was to produce artworks that are eye catching, engaging, and can be personalised to the individual.”

“Our most recent projects include Adele and Lewis Hamilton; we start off a project by building the frame using ply and pine wood and we mitre cut aluminium angles to provide the frame finish. Including the frame build time and all associated hours, a full piece may take between 60 - 70 hours to complete.”

Ben concludes: “By being based at Banks Mill we hope to continue growing and creating new pieces and eventually we would love to produce a product that would enable everyone to create their own dice art.”
