Kate Dawson is a fine jewellery designer/maker who has recently set up and opened her new studio at Banks Mill, specialising in engagement rings, wedding bands and unique made to order pieces.
Kate first realised her passion for jewellery aged 17 after completing a Silversmithing course in Derby and then went on to graduate from Wolverhampton University with a degree specialising in Jewellery Design. Naturally drawn to Birmingham’s famous Jewellery Quarter, Kate first gained a valuable insight into production methods at a large jewellery manufacturer before then moving to a small independent fine jewellery retailer/manufacturing workshop where she continued to develop her craft – planning, designing and making jewellery along with specialising in 3D computer aided design.
After 15 years in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter and with plenty of experience gained along the way, the offer of a studio at Banks Mill in her hometown seemed like the perfect opportunity.
‘I specialise in diamond and coloured stone jewellery, normally working with platinum and gold. Along with an extensive range of engagement ring samples I also have many wedding rings to choose from. With my CAD design knowledge I am able to offer a unique custom service where I work with clients to bring their thoughts and ideas to life: whether that be an exclusive engagement ring or wedding bands or remodelling old jewellery into more wearable pieces.’
‘There is nothing more satisfying than giving help and guidance and creating jewellery for someone that can be treasured for a lifetime. I’m often part of someone’s most memorable occasion and this is what makes my job so very special!’
