How does it feel like to expand to a second studio and go full time with your business? Dariusz and Rachel from Studio 74 had given us an inside to their eventful life
Tell me a bit about yourself/business/practice?
We are Studio 74, a commercial photography and videography studio specialising in creative and e-commerce product work. Behind the business, we are Dariusz and Rachel, a real-life couple who met at the University of Derby on the Commercial Photography course.
What are you currently grappling with in the studio?
Our longer team goal is to expand our business into offering more creative services like Graphic Design and 3D Design, and we are currently figuring out how we can go into the next phase of our growth plans.
Do you have any rituals in the studio, what are they?
No specific rituals, but once we are both in the studio, it’s go time!
What do you have planned for future work?
We have lots of new projects coming in till the end of the year, we have luxurious fragrance houses, haircare, homeware, fashion, skincare, scent marketing and who knows what else!
Who/What Inspires you and your work?
Our inspiration comes from our own careers so far, which sounds strange, but our goal has always been to work for ourselves, to control the creative work we do and collaborate with our clients to produce an outcome that everyone is happy with. As opposed to being restricted on the creative work we can produce due to strict briefs.
Do you have any helpful resources/advice that you would recommend to other artists and makers?
The biggest helpful resource is social media, follow people that are in your industry and see what others are doing, not to be in line with what they’re doing but to give you inspiration for your next project.
Which guests would you invite to your fantasy dinner party?
This is purely Rachel’s answer but Jeff Bezos, Rihanna, Elon Musk, Kylie Jenner and Steven Barlett - big businesspeople.
If you were not an artist/maker and could choose any career, what would it be?
Dariusz cannot imagine doing anything else, Rachel always wanted to be an editor for a magazine.
What have you celebrated in the last 12 months, personally or professionally?
We've celebrated leaving our full-time jobs and going full time on our business. We’ve celebrated getting our second studio space and expanding to working with global clients.
