Dice Ideas moved their business into Banks Mill Studios just over 12-months ago having made the decision to move out of their home studio space and launch full time.
Run by Ben Hoblyn and Ross Montgomery, Dice Ideas are an art design company, specialising in creating custom artwork for clients and businesses worldwide using dice as a medium. As well as physical custom-built art pieces, they also offer media packages for brands looking to boost awareness online through their social media marketing and recent clients have included well-known names such as Disney, Universal, Chelsea FC, Team GB, Madison Square Garden, The NFL and JR Fitness.Ben comments: “In the past three months we have completed a media job for Disney, creating an artwork of Jack Skellington ahead of Halloween and we have also created and delivered work for Activision in celebration of their recent release of Modern Warfare 2.”
“We have also been working on developing smaller pieces that are more affordable and easier to ship which are currently at a prototype stage. We will be looking to experiment further before offering this early next year, along with launching our new and improved website. This will be a large development for us, and we hope it will provide a greater depth of products for customers.
During their first year they have received support and mentoring from the Prince’s Trust and through them Dice Ideas have contributed content to help support secondary school children with advice on business for the future. The Princes Trust also awarded them a grant which has enabled them to purchase new equipment for the studio including lighting and recording equipment.
Being based at Banks Mill has enabled the business to be more focussed and work collaboratively with other tenants including photography shoots with Studio 74. Ben notes: “Being at Banks Mill has allowed us to be much more creative and freer as we now have a dedicated space to work in. We have gone from working around creating pieces and media at home, to a setup that is much more controllable in our studio. We are much more confident with our processes of production and the products that we produce.”
Being based within the University’s incubation centre has also given Dice Ideas the opportunity to tap into a talent pool and work with students getting advice on press & PR and accountancy issues, which in turn gives the students some great real live work experience as part of their studies.
