Moonshadow Arts is a creative company that focuses on digital art, illustration, and photography. The founder, Eddie, is a very creative thinker who has always had a strong ambition to become an independent visual artist.
In 2009, a casual Facebook encounter encouraged Eddie to purchase his first compact digital camera. This was a cheaper way to produce photography, compared to the previously required film and darkrooms. This purchase sparked his creativity and the original idea for Moonshadow Arts was born.
The direction of the company was unclear, until 2022 when Eddie was asked to create greeting cards. This partnership fell through, but he continued and learnt valuable business lessons. Currently, he is focusing on building a successful brand through modern-day marketing. Moonshadow Arts aim to create greeting cards and prints, focusing on the alternative market of the pagan calendar which closely aligns with great imagery and symbolism.
The company is influenced by a variety of subject matters within fantasy art. Eddie is inspired by many creatives, he shares “I grew up in the 1970’s so where do you start when you are surrounded by the likes of Roger Dean, Brian Froud and Bruce Pennington?”’. This likely explains his varied approach to work, using a variety of different layer styles to result in the final art project. The average work time varies massively and can last up to 40 hours!
Throughout his extensive career, he has had numerous professional jobs from being a commercial photographer to a technician. This has developed a broad and dynamic skillset which he now applies to Moonshadow Art. Eddie misses the social aspect of his professional career, describing it as the ‘wider circle of creative contacts’. He is keen to collaborate with others in the creative community at Banks Mill Studios. Alongside his professional career, Eddie has also successfully created multiple well-received drama scripts. Tryals and Tribulations, which was stopped due to illness-related issues, is a finished script and play with songs following the story of Richard Arkwright. He is keen to facilitate a read-through of this script and collaborate with other creatives on this work.
Moonshadow Art has ambitious goals for the next year, from building a strong online presence to securing print sales. Eddie is also aiming to exhibit new creative work, while being mindful of business costs. He is very aware of the financial costs required as he aims to turn this passion project into a full-time occupation.
