Rachael Ashley moved into Banks Mill just over 12-months ago, transforming her photography from a part time pursuit to a thriving professional business.
Rachael is a Derby based multidisciplined creative photographer, with specialties in both studio & Natural portraiture as well as events, street photography and a newly introduced service of brand storytelling.
Her time at Banks Mill has been instrumental in nurturing meaningful relationships with fellow businesses and creatives. Collaborating with individuals, couples, brands and event organisers, Rachael has honed her artistic style, and developing her confidence and creativity. She has a focus on colours, dynamic movement, and sensuality within her portraiture.
The supportive environment of Banks Mill has provided Rachael with opportunities to expand her skill set, foster professional connections, and successfully undertake several big-number events throughout the year. Rachael expresses her appreciation for the community by saying “I have loved all the events and workshops that have been hosted through this community too!”
Furthermore, Rachael actively engages with the film and photography community “Lens Elleven,” while also volunteering as a member of the Open Studios committee at Banks Mill. Notably, Rachael’s Street portraiture was displayed as part of the FORMAT festival, specifically the #picturinghighstreets campaign, exhibited outside QUAD earlier this year.
Rachael is currently focused on establishing her street photography portfolio, ‘Documenting Derby,’ which captures candid portraits of the people residing and working in Derby. She aims to exhibit this collection later in the year. Additionally, Rachael consistently engages in experimentation and the development of her practice, deepening her understanding of clients’ comfort in front of the camera and refining her directing technique. Looking ahead, she plans to begin MA Photography program at the University of Derby in September.
