Candle-Mad specialises in the creation of natural artisan candles and wax melt experiences. The primary aim is to not only illuminate and enrich the ambiance but also to evoke emotions and memories, whilst instilling a sense of relaxation and tranquillity. Candle-Mad's distinctive ‘Pop-Art’ theme, the brand identity, sets Candle-Mad apart as a provider of artisan candles.
Drawing inspiration from Rachael's travels, the fragrances she crafts aspire to authentically capture the emotions experienced, allowing the essence of those memories to radiate through each candle or wax melt.
From experiment to business, Candle-Mad's origin was driven by passion. Rachael Bricknell, founder of Candle-Mad has long held an interest in perfumes and home fragrances, often referred to as “Candle Mad.” During COVID-19 she began the experimentation process for her own candles.
The interest of Family and friends motivated Rachael to develop the skills and techniques needed to become an artisan candle maker. “One of the most crucial skills is understanding the different types of wax and their characteristics as well as having a nose for fragrance.” - Rachael Bricknell.
Rachael is continuing to improve her skills by attending online courses, local networking events, training opportunities and by utilising workshops and business support provided by the University of Derby. Rachael says, “I feel very privileged to have been accepted for a studio at Banks Mill as it’s such a creative space within the city of Derby.”.
Currently, Candle-Mad’s online business is being transformed, with the addition of innovative designs, fragrances, monthly subscription boxes and bespoke wholesale orders tailored for each of the suppliers and retailers. In addition to this online refurbishment Candle-Mad’s Studio is undergoing a conversion, preparing to accommodate immersive candle-making workshops and corporate event days, offering individuals an opportunity to try a new experience through the art of home fragrance.
The plan for the upcoming months is to explore new techniques, stay updated with the latest trends in candle design and fragrance as well as looking into new avenues for sales and growth to further grow the business.
