Derbyshire Open Arts is an annual art event on the Spring Bank Holiday at the end of May. Individuals and groups organise their own studios and venues but join together under one banner. Artists and crafts people open their studios to the public or exhibit with others in a combined venue such as a village hall or art gallery. It gives visitors an opportunity to see the breadth of art that is created in Derbyshire, to meet the creators, and to purchase or commission works directly from the maker. We’ve compiled a list of Banks Mill Members who will be taking part in this year's event and where to find them.
Zaza Lewis skillfully combines hand-cut card with colourful textured or fine fabrics to illustrate her ideas, without the need to use any paint. Zaza said "My first event as an artist was with Derbyshire Open Arts in 2018, back then I shared a venue with a few other artists in Egginton, south Derbyshire. Six years later, I am looking forward to taking part again and sharing my journey, this time exhibiting solo. I am thankful to those of you who have followed my progress since the beginning, or just discovered me and my art. I will be in my newly built studio (venue 55 in the brochure). It’s worth a look for the building itself, it’s a work of art!!! I will be taking this opportunity to welcome visitors to my new creative space, where I will be exhibiting my latest creations as well as most certainly working on new work. I will also be having a studio sale of original work as space is getting scare for storage, so definitely worth the detour. There is a 2-hour free parking on the street also. See you there!". Stephanie Trethowen, her work is influenced by post impressionism, artists such as Cezanne, Matisse and Vlaminck. She often paints landscapes and cityscapes from the local Derbyshire/Staffordshire area as well as the North Yorkshire coast. Jenny Marshall explores concepts of human identity intertwined with our planet, delving into the delicate relationship between humans and the forces of nature and our emotional response to the environment. Claire R. Zwozny-Bestwick aka CRZyBest. Eco-friendly, non-traditional Silversmith & Sculptor, working from her Shedquarters in Derbyshire: creating predominantly in metal clay, creating tiny kiln fired sculptures which she turns into jewellery, lapel pins, gifts, accessories and alternative bouquets amongst other things!
